Watu Godeg Beach, a Small heaven in Lumajang

Watu Godeg beach is one of the few beaches in Lumajang which (to say) remote. It is located in the Tempursari district, 80 km south of the Lumajang city. It is called Watu Godeg because there is a 5 meters big rock which is the cliff fragments rolling into the shore. If there is high tide, the rock is barely visible or covered by the sea water. As well as when it has low tide, the rock will be apparent. We could ride it while feeling sensational rock movement or sway due to the waves as high as 1 – 1.5 meters. In Javanese, this stone wobble is call Watu Goded. Watu means stone and godeg means the stone’s wobble. However, if you do not have the guts, do not try to climb it. Otherwise, you will be sinking into the sea.

To get there through east path passing Bambang beach, you will be passing down the hills as much as three times. The road to get to Watu Godeg beach is pretty exciting and challenging, but your fear will be treated with its natural beauty. On the way after passing the second hill, you will be treated by the beauty of the Indian Ocean and the beautiful cliffs on the north. In addition, you can also see the brackish water lake which some of them is bordering the cliff.
Another side of Watu Godeg beach is the marshes that exist beneath the cliffs and on the east of the beach. These quiet and shady marshes formed due to tidal influx of sea water filtered by the roots of pandanus odorifer. This beautiful marsh is also a habitat for shrimps and crabs that can be fished every time. The water is fairly clear and calm make the visitor feel relax and want to stay longer. Moreover, in the east side, you can also enjoy the elegance of peak Semeru mountain emitting volcanic ash. Nevertheless, it is advisable not to try bathing in a muddy swamp below it.

When you got there, do not be surprised if there is a small sandy road and many bumps. A national motocross competition is often held there. Do you not believe it? Prove it by coming to Watu Godeg beach.
